Vitamin D and Vitamin K
While calcium and vitamin D often get the spotlight for bone health, vitamin K is essential to the process. It activates osteocalcin (a protein produced by osteoblasts) that helps direct calcium into the bone matrix and away from soft tissues like arteries and joints. Vitamin K exists in two main forms: K1, found in leafy greens, and K2, a group of compounds known as menaquinones. Among them, K2 as MK-7 stands out for its superior bioavailability and greater impact on bone strength and calcium regulation.
